ambient temperature no longer shown on main screen Google Pixel Community

If all the stock weather options don’t work up to your taste, another way to see climate condition on your Android home screen is by using third-party apps. The Google Play Store is a home for many weather apps, just as it is for other apps. Meanwhile, some stock weather widgets may not work accurately, depending on your OEM, software skin, and region.

Why force a widget on everyone when Android has so many others to choose from? Thankfully, you can still somewhat get the Pixel experience without the widget. If you like everything else about the Pixel Launcher, you’re stuck with an unremovable widget taking up space on your home screen.

Fortunately, you can customize every aspect of it to fit your needs. Besides showing the real-time weather, date, and events, At a Glance has some features exclusive to Google Pixel phones. You, however, don't have to worry if you don't have a Pixel device since all you need is the weather.

However, it’s not technically a widget with the Pixel Launcher on Pixel phones. It’s part of the launcher itself and for some reason, Google doesn’t let you remove it. While Google’s weather app isn’t the best out there, it is simple, and much more elegant than seeing the weather in Google search results. Google could take some hints from Dark Sky – which Apple now owns and is no longer available on Android. It would be nice to see Google add a radar to its weather app, but that likely won’t happen.

Customizing Widgets and At A Glance on the Pixel’s Home screen

Most Google apps that are preinstalled on the Pixel take advantage of Material You, while third-party applications usually do not. Some Google-made widgets like the clock widgets will have a pencil in the bottom right-hand corner after letting go. Tapping that pencil will allow you to change even more aspects of it, truly adjusting it to your liking. It’s also worth mentioning that the scale of adjustments you can make to widgets depends on the app grid size. A bigger grid allows for more minute adjustments, while a small grid only allows for extreme adjustments. If by any means/reason the clock or weather widgets on your Android home screen disappear, you might have removed them accidentally.

So, ensure a stock weather widget/app works well in your area before settling for it. All you need is to check the widget picker on your phone to see the available weather widgets. If you see anyone you like, you can add it by downloading no third-party app. You can always long-press the placed widget anytime if you want to reposition, resize, or remove it. Also, you can tap the widget anytime to open the full weather app. Tapping the weather icon on the At a Glance widget, for example, will open the Google app to show the full weather.

Google Has Removed The Weather App For Some Pixel Owners

If nothing else works, you can uninstall and reinstall the weather app, then add its widget on your Android home screen again. If you don’t fancy the At a Glance widget but still want to get the Google widget app on your home screen, you'll need to add it as a shortcut. You'll see the detailed weather info whenever you open the shortcut. At a Glance relies on Google weather, which works accurately and doesn’t require any extra setup other than turning on your phone's location. It works once you add the widget on the home screen, plus you can tap the weather icon to show full details and climate forecasts for up to 10 days. Getting to see the weather on your Android home screen is as simple as placing a weather widget on your favorite part of the home screen.

You almost don’t need any third-party app to see the current weather info on your Android phone. You can pretty much see all the weather detail you want at a glance on your home screen. And if you’re still there looking for how to get weather on the Android home screen, you are on the right page. Google has an abundant wallpaper selection in Android 12, ranging anywhere from cityscapes to fun, vibrant drawings to photos taken by community members. There are even animated wallpapers such as in the “Living Universe” collection. While absolutely gorgeous, these tend to drain the battery a little more.

You can get to At a Glance settings by once again long pressing on the homescreen and then tapping Home settings. This feature will normally show details like planned events in your Google Calendar, upcoming flight information, and weather. All of those individual aspects can be disabled, so some information doesn’t appear at the top of your homescreen. All you need is to install your preferred weather app and place its widget on your home screen. Different weather apps offer extra functionality and various widget designs, meaning you may need to try many of them till you find your favorite. You don't have to rely on Google's offering if it looks less appealing to you or it's just too simple.

After all, that’s what makes the stock Android experience on a Pixel appealing. Google does tests like this all the time, and sometimes the changes stick, but most of the time they do not. The point of the testing is to see whether or not users like the changes before rolling it out to the billions of Android devices out there. To do this, open the Settings and search for “Home app.” Select “Rootless Launcher” from the list. And get a daily digest of news, geek trivia, and our feature articles. Under it, touch and hold the At a Glance widget, then drag it to your preferred spot on the Home screen.

Many Android OEMs have their weather apps and widgets; depending on who made your Android phone, you may have plenty of options. To add a widget, long press on the homescreen and tap Widgets. How many widgets are available in the menu will depend on how many apps you have installed on your Pixel.

It’s easy to put weather on your home screen once you’ve decided the widget you want to use. You can get to these settings with a long press on the homescreen once again. This time, though, go ahead and select Home settings in the menu that comes up. Here you can find a few more small options that’ll let you tweak the finer details. Google calls this widget “At a Glance” and it can actually be added to any Android home screen launcher.

How to get weather on Android home screen

One of the hallmark features of the Google Pixel series is the classic home screen widget that shows the date and weather. This widget is built-in to the default “Pixel Launcher,” but you may want to remove it. This isn’t an OS issue either, as some are still on the July update with the weather app being missing. While others are on the August update and some are on Android 11 Beta with the issue. It appears to be happening to those on the beta version of the Google app. So the best way to get it back currently is to unenroll in the beta program and update the app.
